I'm going to be on San Juan Island with a group of friends over 4th of July staying near Roche Harbor. Where is the best place to watch fireworks - Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor? (Also is there a good viewpoint to scope out, or is it relatively easy to locate a good viewing area?)

Also, we're looking to have a small bonfire on the beach one night. Is there a public beach with firepits that you'd reccommend?

Thank you!

Thanks for posting to the message board...

The good news is there are no bad seats in the house for watching fireworks from Roche Harbor.  The restaurant and bar should have live music and outdoor seating on the deck... many enjoy the fireworks from here along with the conveniences of a restaurant/bar.

Another great spot would be to walk over to the Roche Harbor pool area where there is a large green field with a playground and picnic tables.  Many bring along chairs or a blanket and enjoy the fireworks from here.

If you have any friends with boats docked or moored at Roche Harbor that is another good option.

With regards to having a bonfire on the beach I recommend South Beach on Cattle Point.  Check out the link for more photos and info.

Thanks again for posting on the message board and feel free to ask any additional questions.
