west side of San Juan Island offers the best kayaking with the opportunities to see all sorts of wildlife including orca whales, bald eagles, seals, Dolphins, and also learn a lot about the ecosystem and environment. Probably the best way to see the islands would be to take a multi-day kayak tour where you kayak from island to island and camp on remote beaches and parks. Or if you prefer to get "less exercise" and prefer to explore the islands culture,

Make sure you drive out to
Lime Kiln State Park.
