Hi,
Here is our travel plan: drive from Portland, Oregon on Friday and arrive Anacortes at night, take ferry to one island to do some touring, then go to another island to stay overnight Saturday, and return Portland late Sunday.

Between Friday Harbor and Orcas Island, I am not sure which one is better to stay for a family of 6, 2 seniors, 2 adults and 2 boys ?

Also, what kind of activities anyone can recommend for boys? (15-yrs-old and 8-yrs-old)?

Thanks in advance,
YS

I'd take the ferry to Friday Harbor and do that first then go to Orcas.  That way you don't have to pay for the second ferry ride. (Going west costs money while going east is free).

You might look at the Cascade Harbor Inn on Orcas  as a place to stay.

Tends to be a bit cheaper than most and has a lovely setting overlooking the water.  It's fairly close to Moran Park and not too far from town.  In the park we have Cascade Lake where you can rent a canoe or paddle boat.   Nice short hikes to a series of waterfalls.

Don't know when you are coming but if you are lucky we will have a nice low tide and you can walk out to Indian Island from Eastsound.  That's something you don't get to do everywhere and something kids of all ages enjoy.  The younger one might enjoy the Fun House in Eastsound. http://www.thefunhouse.org/
