We (parents plus 4 adult children) will be in Seattle over Thanksgiving weekend. We are considering spending a few days out on the islands but have many questions.
What is the weather typically like in late November?
Is this a bad time to come to the islands if we want to enjoy the scenery?
Are places open on Thanksgiving? (Our choices are to come over for 1-3 days between Thanksgiving and the Saturday following Thanksgiving).
Does it make more sense to just come over on Friday and/or Saturday?
How crowded are the ferries leaving the islands on Saturday evening? (It looks like you can not reserve a spot, and if we can't get off the islands on Saturday evening, we miss our early Sunday flight - it seems like you gamble between spending time on the islands, but possibly not being able to leave when you need to. Yes, we will have a rental car).
Thanks for any help!
Linda

Thanks for posting on the message board...

To answer your question about the weather in November in the San Juan Islands I did a quick search of our web cam archives and as you can see from the photos taken around sunset from every day last November the weather was pretty good.

Several bed and breakfasts  and hotels and other community organizations have Thanksgiving dinners and specials.  It is also a slower time of year so you will find that the prices for accommodations are lower than in the summer season.

The ferry lines are also nothing to worry about... show up an hour early to be on the safe side.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving in the islands!

PS... check out this post to see what Christmas - December in the San Juan Islands looks like.

here is a grand finale on the 30th of November:
