Hi-- For my first trip to WA I've planned a sampler loop (sort of) from Seattle to Olympics to San Juans to North Cascades. But, looks like I can't go from Port Angeles to Victoria/Sidney/Friday Harbor.

So, using Port Townsend ferry (do I need a reservation if it will be mid-Sept. Wednesday?) and driving up Whidby Island to Anacortes. Is 1 hr. drive time enough for Keystone to Anacortes as I hope to hit 12:45 ferry (Port Townsend) then 3:10 ferry (Anacortes). Only have 2 days in San Juans and want to maximize it (tho' I'd love to stop at Deception Pass Park if time.). Thanks!

Google maps shows it as only 1 hr and 38 minutes ( including the 20 minute ferry ride ). Link to driving directions.

Even if the boat is 15 minutes late you would depart at 1pm... arriving no later than 1:30pm... you would then have 1 hour and 40 minutes before the Anacortes to Friday Harbor ferry departure. Enough time for a quick stop at the Deception Pass Bridge.

Thanks for posting!

Reservations are advisable for the Port Townsend ferry.  I think the original ferry got pulled out of service and the replacement is much smaller.  When I crossed back in March they asked if I had a reservation and I did so there was no problem.  Since you want to make sure you get on I would definitely get a reservation.

Parking at Deception Pass is on the left just before you get to the bridge.  Park there and walk over the bridge.  It will only take a few minutes.

If you are driving fill up in Anacortes before getting on the ferry.  Gas is about $1 more a gallon in the islands.

I assume you know that you only pay to go west on the Anacortes ferry.  Coming back from Friday Harbor you can visit any of the other three islands for free (if the schedule works out for you).  (Make sure you get in the correct line - see the sign at the entrance to the ferry waiting area).  Stop on Orcas (where I live) and visit Mt Constitution in Moran State Park.  Highest point in the San Juans and you can drive to the top.  Beautiful view.  Email me directly (click on my name to get to my profile) and perhaps I can show you around a bit.
