We plan on renting a house near San Juan County park, on SJI next Sept, for 8 nts.(2011-Sept 22-30)  I'm sure we'll do a saltwater charter on 1 of our days here. Not sure which one yet. Any Recommendations?
My question: Do people have much success fishing the beaches or rocky spots from the shoreline? I'm an early riser, and figure I can get an hour or two in each morning before the rest of them get up. I'm bringing my flyrods because we plan on being in Tofino-Ucluet the week before this trip. (Hope to catch to catch some Silvers or kings) This is not really a fishing trip, but....me being an opportunist,I can take 1 day on each leg for angling. Any info on shore fishing would be helpful.
I realize that both SJI and Orcas have some beautiful freshwater lakes with bass, salmon and trout. No doubt, we will be hiking or driving by some of them. I would probably stick my fishing gear in the car for the day trip, and only use it if the right situation presents itself. Once again this is not a fishing trip for me.
Would appreciate any info, especially fly fishing opportunities.

Thanks for posting your question on the message board... because I'm not a fishing expert I'm going to pass this question on to someone who is. Hopefully we will have a response for you within a day or two.

Thanks for the reply Wesley. I may post on some NW area fishing sites, to see if anyone has local knowledge.  If you know any islanders that are regular fisherman, ask them if they might be willing to spare a tidbit or two about the lakes or shore fishing.
Thanks for any info.

I found this on an Orcas Island site. West Beach Resort.

I'll continue to add more to this posting whenever I find something useful. Since I can't find the definitive "fishing the San Juan Islands," any info anyone else can contribute, may make this the best SJI angling source for the future. All fishing info is welcome as long as it pertains to the SJI's. Freshwater lakes,  fly fishing and any saltwater techniques and tips would be helpful.
Thanks to any and all contributions.
