Staying on San Juan island for the weekend of opening day of crab season(July 15th).  I have a crab pot but I am not bringing a boat. Does anyone know a good location to drop a pot in ideal waters where it wont get stolen and i can check it with out a boat?  I looked into renting a boat but my only option is $90 every time I would need to use it.

Thanks.

Sorry I missed this post! For anyone else looking to do some crabbing on San Juan Island...Try calling Snug Harbor ( on the west side of San Juan Island ) .. you can drop your crab pot just a couple hundred meters from their docks and I believe they have rowboats for rent or free for customers. Find their site on this page about San Juan Island resorts.

I used to drop my crab pot just a bit beyond the mouth of Snug Harbor. I would normally leave it from 9am to 3 or 4pm.

Happy crabbing!

fyi.. The West Beach Resort on Orcas offers unlimited use of their crab pots plus one bait per day. Check them out at http://www.westbeachresort.com.
