We are camping at Moran State Park in July and my daughter and her family are bring a canoe.  Other than canoeing in the lakes are there safe areas to canoe near the shoreline.  If so where  can we  launch from.  First trip to Washington state.

I think Crescent Bay would work for you.  Most days it's like glass.  There is a small parking lot at each end of the bay.  You'll have to carry the canoe across the street and over the driftwood jumble on the beach.  They rent kayaks there so must be easy to do.  From Moran State Park come back toward Eastsound and turn left at the gas station.  From the ferry, turn right into Eastsound and stay on that road.  Go through the stop sign and after a little while it will go down hill to a bay.  You'll see the kayak place on the left about where the speed limit goes back up to 35.

Thanks Ron,

That is just what I was looking for.  Some beachcombing, nature viewing and just being out on the water.   Now if we get an out of state fishing license and just happen to bring a fishing pole would I might be able to get a couple of fish to cook over that open camp fire. What fish might I be able to lure in ?

Drove by yesterday and I think it's really called Crescent BEACH rather than BAY.  There are some pictures taken from one of the Crescent Beach parking lots in my Orcas Island photo set on Picasa if you want to check it out:

I made the set for my wife to show to her former coworkers to give them an idea where we now live.  (We just moved her in July after she retired.)

I'm afraid I'm no fisherman so can't tell you what's out there.

Email me directly when you are coming out (Click on my name and you will see my email address.) and you can come up for coffee or to enjoy the sunset from 1200 feet elevation.

 Thanks Ron,

I have sent you an email.   Coffee is my number 1 drink.

Many islands surrounded by water and no weekend fisherman out there?

I'm still looking forward to a coffee when I get back in town!  Coffee just doesn't taste the same in Thailand!  I checked out your photos... nice shots.... and what a fantastic view from your mountain top perch. Pura Vida
