hello, my husband I are planning to fly into Seattle, rent a car and drive to Anacortes, then take a ferry to an Island, then possibly to B.C. We realize that visiting in Nov. will limit our love for the outdoors, however from the websites it looks like there is plenty to see and to do. My question is what islands would be best to see during the middle of November? What is the time frame to travel from island to island? Would it be possible to take a ferry to the B.C. for one day, one night, and one day from one of the islands.  Do you think I am trying to cram to much into to few of days?
Thank you for your response. Chandra :- Huh

I was thinking it might be better for you to fly directly to Victoria on Vancouver Island from Seattle.  You could then stay a day and night seeing the sights in Victoria, B.C. and then take the ferry directly to the San Juan Islands.  After a day and night in the San Juan Islands you could fly directly to SeaTac Airport in Seattle from Lopez Island, Orcas Island, or San Juan Island.  Or you could take the ferry back to Anacortes and connect with a shuttle bus to SeaTac Airport.

Skipping the car rental and shuttle bus would save you valuable time. Avoiding traffic and the two-hour drive is another plus.  The drive from Seattle to Anacortes is not considered a scenic route.

You will need a passport to cross the border.  More details on travel documents can be found here: http://www.dhs.gov/xtrvlsec/crossingborders/

Without knowing more about what you are interested in it is difficult to recommend a particular island to visit.  Orcas Island and San Juan Island have more to offer in terms of diversity of attractions than Lopez Island.  I recommend you do a little bit more research on what each island has to offer you.  Here are some good starting points:

San Juan Island

Lopez Island

Orcas Island

How does this sound?

Which state and city are you guys coming from?

The wettest month is November with an average of 4.38 inches of rainfall.  The driest month is July with .94 inches of rainfall. Average highs in November in the San Juans are 50 and average lows of 38. Selecting accommodations that describe themselves as "cozy" and that have outdoor Jacuzzis is recommended.

You might find that certain days are less expensive to fly on; please check with the airlines regarding that.  You will be seen in quite a bit by traveling in the low season.

Here are some helpful links:

Transportation options:

San Juan Airlines

Kenmore air has daily flights from SeaTac and Lake Union to the San Juan Islands.

Here is a shuttle service from downtown Seattle to the ferry landing in Anacortes.

Here Is another shuttle service that departs from the SeaTac Airport which is about 45 minutes south of Seattle.   http://www.islandairporter.com/

Here is the ferry schedule .
