I heard of Friday Harbor from a friend; can you please let me know if you have a kind of hospital in case of baby delivery for example or if a person gets sick while visiting your island.

Thank you in advance for your attention.

It is not recommended to deliver your baby on Orcas Island, San Juan Island, or Lopez Island.  The medical centers there recommend that you go somewhere off island such as Island Hospital in Anacortes.

However each island does have a medical center capable of handling serious injuries.  If it is anything critical you will be flown off island via medevac helicopter.

Airlift Northwest has a membership program for families in the San Juan Islands.  The program, called AirCare is $79 per year for the family.  If anyone in the family is critically ill or critically injured airlift Northwest has helicopter standing by to fly you to an off island hospital.

For me, it is not advisable to deliver a baby in the island. You may not get the needed medical assistance even if there is a medical center available. It is best to  stay off island when you are expecting; let us say one month prior to the delivery.
